People Development Blog

The People Discovery Blog is a bit of a labour of love.  I love sharing new ideas, concepts and strategies to help leaders, managers, business owners, or anyone interested in people development see fresh and new perspectives, or even to reinforce their own great practices.

My blog includes topics on leadership development, leadership practices, human resources.  My leadership development model is the filter for all of my work, both in how I help clients and also how I write.  You can find out more about the model here.  I believe that inside of everyone is a higher self which is powerful, loving, kind and creative.  In addition I believe that when you can come to the realisation that we are all connected, then it is inevitable that a unity consciousness develops.  The power of living life through unity consciousness is that it resolves all conflicts and unites all people.  I hope you learn and enjoy my blog.  I wish you peace, love and enlightenment in your life.

What If Everything Was OK?

What If Everything Was OK?

What if things were really ok? Two nights ago, I went swimming.  It was an activity I had been looking forward to all day.  I usually go quite late because it tends to be more peaceful and as I swim I can ruminate and contemplate. Tired and tense for the first 10 lengths or so, instead or relaxing, I found my mind worrying about a number of pieces of work […]

7 Principles To Get An Immediate Return On Your Learning Investment

There is no point in learning in the workplace unless it makes a difference There are many evaluation models and cost/benefit frameworks which attempt to determine the “worth” of learning and development in the workplace.  Depending on the type of learning required, some models and frameworks are easier to apply than others.  Sometimes even when applied, the expected outcomes and improvements have either not materialised or they have taken far […]

12 Ways To Illuminate The Vision, While Dealing With The Realistic Stuff

12 Ways To Illuminate The Vision, While Dealing With The Realistic Stuff

It’s challenging being realistic, when you are chasing a vision. I write a lot about leadership  and how leaders can choose to see things from another perspective.  One of my inspirations is Carl Jung, especially his work on archetypes and dream analysis.  I see patterns and connections all around me, and if you know anything about Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) , you will understand it’s because I have a […]

7 Uncommon Ways to be a Positive Influence on You and Your Team

Being a positive influence is a must when leading teams The psychology of leadership simply fascinates me, and no more so than when leaders have a positive influence on their team.   You may not class yourself as a leader, but you are a leader, whether you’re leading a team, a family or even yourself.  In your role, as a leader, the energy you emit is vital, and cannot fail to […]

The Golden Triangle Of Open-Mindedness

The Golden Triangle Of Open-Mindedness

I don’t think any of us can practice total  open-mindedness We continually have to make decisions and in order to make decisions we usually have to come to some sort of conclusion even if that means not making a decision at all. Practicing open-mindedness, isn’t universal a characteristic we are born with.  To be effective leaders and managers we often have to develop the crucial habits of self-reflection, observation, challenging beliefs and […]

No More New Year Resolutions: 4 Steps To Lasting Change

Please, No More New Year resolutions – 4 ways to create change at any time For me, the rot started and ended when I used to make and break New Year ’s resolutions.  I always started the diet, or gave up cigarettes or vowed to keep the house, my life, my work in pristine order.   I probably averaged about 3 weeks staying with my resolution, over the many years I […]

A heartfelt Christmas wish for you   “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.           Soon the bells will start           And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing           Right within your heart” I come from a large family.  We are very close although we don’t tend to spend Christmas […]

Santa Claus is real

Santa Claus is real

You have to decide where you stand with Santa Claus! What follows is an article  I wrote last year, just as I began blogging on the internet.  It is a little bit of a flight of fancy, but it is also about being able to choose whatever state you want to live in.  Our imaginations are  such an underused power because often we don’t know how to use this great […]

How To Tackle Habitual Negativity in Your Team

How To Tackle Habitual Negativity in Your Team

The challenge about Negativity in the team As a result of an internal transfer, a client recently took over a new team. But he quickly realised that some of its members had a negative and unhelpful attitude. This negativity manifested itself in a small clique complaining about customer expectations, some of their working conditions and the amount of work that they had to do (for which they believed that they […]

The Secret Ingredient Of Brilliant Leaders And Managers

The Secret Ingredient Of Brilliant Leaders And Managers

I have only come across a handful of brilliant leaders and managers in my working career. The ingredient these people shared was, they were intrinsically drawn to “doing the right thing”. The “right thing” for these leaders and managers wasn’t always popular. The act of choosing for them was sometimes personally agonising, but they still made those decisions. When questioned, many leaders and managers know what “doing the right thing” is, but […]
